Why the Performer Scren (PS) is totally useless.

I'm sure this is quite debatable, as some might find that the PS serves its purpose in their shows - good for them. But here's an explanation why this is pretty rare.

• First of all, as a KJ your job is to talk to the crowd, interact with them, and call up the next performers using your awesomely sexy voice. Having a screen do that for you is rediculous, lazy, and a bad image for you.

• Second, in order to use the PS properly, you will need to have 3 monitors working on your computer. One is yours - it shows the SDSP window, Winamp, your start menu, etc. The other monitor (normally your TV-Out) will be sending a video signal to your performer's TV (and sometimes to more than one monitor in some bars, and if you're lucky). You'd need a second computer monitor somewhere displaying the PS, it would need to be large enough for people to read it from wherever they are, which means extra costs, setup time, and headaches for you.

• Third and last, people will probably not give a damn about the screen, unless they are karaoke addicts and are pointedely awaiting their turn to sing (I know, I'm one of them). They'll probably come and ask you when they're singing next anyway, so what's the point?

So to wrap it up, you'd have to be either lazy, rich, or stupid to use the PS. If anyone has an objection to this argument, just email me and I'll add your point here after discussing it with you.

I've been given a counter argument against my second point - the fact that one would need 3 monitors to use the PS. The theory is that you would actually use the PS inbetween the karaoke songs, on the same display as the lyrics. This would be fine only if:

• Your lyrics are displayed on screen that are viewable from most places where you do your karaoke (for example if you have a huge projector on one wall with the lyrics).
• You have enough space between songs to use the screen, so for example if you put a dance song or whatever.

Yes, that would be very valid in those situations, so good argument to the people who sent it to me! If you have solutions for the other points, shoot away.
